Dear Class of 2014, Parents, and Guardians, Welcome to the beginning of the scheduling process for Westfield High School! Selecting the appropriate classes for your future is an exciting and challenging task. At this time, we ask you to read through the Program of Studies. This document has been prepared to familiarize you with the classes we offer to our Grade Nine students. We have set up the booklet by department for your convenience. Several departments have provided flow charts of the course offerings. This information will assist you in mapping out your sequence of classes over your four years at WHS. Westfield High School graduates must earn 22 credits in specific areas. Please check the Program of Studies for the list by department. Any course you select that is designated as a 1-credit course runs for the entire year. Also, any 1/2 – credit course is a single semester or half year long. An asterisk (*) precedes the departments that offer courses required for graduation. Freshmen must take: US History 1, Physical Science, two half year Language Arts classes, a Mathematics class, Physical Education, and Health. In addition, freshmen select electives to complete the seven periods. We have given an example of a typical Grade 9 schedule…
You must select your classes carefully and indicate your priorities for electives correctly. We have provided both a worksheet and a master selection sheet for your scheduling purposes. Mark your elective choices by placing the numbers 1 through 4 on the lines directly preceding the chosen course on both sheets. The number ‘1’ indicates the primary choice and 2, 3 and 4 represent secondary choices. We cannot guarantee every request will be satisfied. Students who require Special Services and or Sheltered English Immersion classes need to speak directly to their liaison and counselors before completing this form. Your guidance counselors can answer questions you may have regarding the schedule or the process of requesting elective classes. You are encouraged to attend the WHS Open House on FEBRUARY 10, 2010 (snow day February 11) at 6:30 to experience an evening at the high school. The benefits of this evening are advantageous in assisting your child’s transition to Westfield High School. Several members of the high school staff and administration will be on hand to answer any questions or listen to your concerns. Best of luck, Westfield High School Administration
