Senior Committees

New Senior Committees Westfield High School’s class of 2010 is setting the standard for organization and effectiveness for all upcoming senior events. The senior class officers are responsible for creating, what hopes to be a more efficient way for the workload of senior year to be spread out among students and parents.

Committees consisting of parents or students have been formed to help organize, setup, and run all senior activities. Sign-ups for these committees were held Wednesday September 16, at the Spaghetti Dinner.

The committees comprised solely of students include the Spirit Week Committee, Prom Committee, Class Song Committee, Senior Skits and many more. These are each headed by a class officer and supervised by the class of 2010 supervisors, Ms. Susanne Wiley and Ms. Korey Bruno. The hope is that getting more students involved will not only help lighten the workload but will also make every event more fun and enjoyable.

Kaitlin Chambers a senior class officer said “the student committees were created because students wanted to have more of a voice in the senior activities”. The student response has been great with many students signing up for all the committees especially the senior skits, which seems to be a favorite. Having not only the class officers but the entire class of 2010 working on the senior events is something that has never been tried before. If the student committee system proves to be effective, the 2010 officers can truly say they have set the standard for all future senior classes to follow.

Parents are also being asked to volunteer their time to help out with many of the same events the student committees will be working on. The first major opportunity parents will have to contribute to the senior class is the Senior Masquerade at the end of October. Parents are being asked to help out with decorating, baking snacks, and running any activities.

The faculty advisors will meet with each parent committee a month prior to each scheduled event for planning purposes. Other committees needing parent volunteers include the Senior Luau, Senior Picnic, Senior Banquet and Powder-Puff committees. The parent volunteers will be a vital part of all senior events this year and all participation is greatly appreciated.

Hats off to all the class officers and supervisors who orchestrated these committees and brought the class of 2010 together to make senior year what they want it to be.
