Dear Parent, As we finally reach the Baseball off-‐season, I have a few comments that I’d like to share with you. Over the Winter, the Athletic Department will be offering all Spring athletes and opportunity to increase their strength, flexibility and core development. It is my hope the this program will run on Tuesdays and Thursdays after school until the beginning of the Spring try-‐out season. These workouts are not mandatory, but I believe that they will go a long way in developing a real sense of TEAM, and an investment by the players towards improvement. Lastly, I want to remind you, and I will remind the players, of Westfield’s and the MIAA’s policy concerning the Chemical Health Rule. For the first violation the student-‐athlete loses eligibility for the next 25% of the scheduled games. He is also suspended for up to 10 days, during which he cannot play or practice with the team. For a second offense the student-‐athlete loses eligibility for 60% of the remaining games. To this end I will not allow ANY student-‐athlete who is under suspension due to the Chemical Health Rule to try out for the Baseball team, at any level. It is time for the student-‐-‐athlete to take responsibility for his own actions. We as a staff will have invested too much time and effort to improve to be held hostage for someone else’s mistake. Please remember that participation in Interscholastic Athletics is a privilege that is won and not awarded. Thank You, Rich Discenza
