Card Making
In a workshop environment, participants will learn the art of card making. Each week, we will learn the basic techniques and experience the use of various materials needed to produce these mini-works-of-art. All materials will be provided to make 4 different designs each week. Class size is limited to 15. There is a one-time materials fee of $20 per person.
Crafts
This class includes instruction for various craft projects and easy to make decorations and gifts. (Additional fee of $25 for materials)
Buying, Selling and Refinancing your Home
This course will deal with the basics of real estate law and the practical aspects of home ownership. We will discuss: a brief historical background of American real estate law, forms of home ownership, types of deeds and how to read them, title examinations and title problems, using the services of the Registry of Deeds including free on-line access, the process of buying and selling a home, mortgage loans, the paperwork involved in a real estate closing, and elderly and estate planning with real estate. We will also mention basic principles of landlord-tenant law and of zoning and land use.
Line Dancing for Beginners
Introduction to Line Dancing and associated skills will include step, tap, slide, grapevine, shuffle, hitch, and scuff. We will begin with country line dancing and move to the 70’s, then introduce a few new hip-hop dances. Come dressed to move (sneakers and comfortable clothing) and to have FUN.
Self-Defense
A course in self-defense instruction will focus on reactions to various situations that will allow for an avoidance of dangerous circumstances. Various self-defense techniques will be covered. Active wear is recommended.
Clothing Repair and Alteration
This course will include instruction on sewing buttons and snaps; repairing rips in all types of fabrics; hemming dresses, pants, and jeans; replacing zippers in dresses, pants, and jeans; and replacing seams and hand-sewing. Sewing supplies will be provided. Please bring an old pair of jeans to be used for sewing practice in class.
FOODS
Topics will include knife skills, appetizers, garnishing, desserts, and pasta dishes.
Each class will cover one of the above topics. This is a hands-on course and an additional fee will be charged for staples.
Basic Knitting and Crocheting
This course is geared toward the beginning knitter. Pattern and stitches will be covered. Participants will start with basic projects like scarves, hats, and mittens. Time permitting; we will cover all the different ways to read a pattern. You will be able to knit or crochet different patterns and work independently. Participants are responsible for providing yarn and needles.
Keyboarding
The course is designed to introduce individuals to correct fingering techniques, using the basic functions of Word software. Letters, numbers, and symbols are initially covered each week, followed by an overview of correct formatting for frequently used documents such as reports, business letters, resumes, etc.
Computer Skills
This course will explore, enhance, and teach new computer skills in a non-threatening hands-on environment. Topics will include Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, Internet trends, Photoshop, and Video Making.
Guitar
This course is designed to teach students all the basics of beginning guitar, including all major chords and scales, learning how to string and tune your guitar, as well as lessons on how to use internet guitar instruction sites to get to those songs that are your personal favorites. Opportunities to play electric guitar, 12-string guitar, nylon-string, or mandolin will be offered, by request, for those interested.
Beginning Quilting
Do you wish you could make a quilt but don’t know where to begin? Or are you interested in learning the correct steps? All the basics of quilting will be reviewed. We will complete a table runner and wall hanging. Or join us for Quilter’s Potpourri; work on your previous projects with limited instruction during the Beginning Quilting sessions. Sewing Machines and Patterns will be provided. Participants are responsible for purchasing their own thread and fabrics. Participants are welcome to bring their own tools. |
