The central concept of the course is to introduce the student with screen printing technology and its use in communication and manufacturing. All introductory phases of screen printing will be covered: screen preparation, creation of a stencil, and the printing process. Students will be introduced to a broad variety of materials, machines, and manufacturing processes relating to today’s industry and technology. Additionally they will be exposed to QuarkXPress software. This course is a prerequisite for Advanced Graphic Arts Technology. A $10.00 lab fee is required.
TE2200 Introduction to Photography
1/2 CR.
Grades 10, 11, 12
Prerequisite: 35mm Camera
This photography course introduces students to the basic of black & white photography. There are a series of photographic assignments and class projects that give the student a hands on approach to understanding the subject. Your 35mm camera with a flash in good working order is absolutely necessary for this course. The lab fee allows for ample film, paper and chemicals to complete all required assignments and projects if performed as instructed. Additional materials and supplies may be purchased for extra credit or personal work. A $25.00 lab fee is required.
TE2000 Offset Printing
1/2 CR.
Grades 9, 10, 11, 12
This course is a laboratory course which the student will develop knowledge and skills of offset printing and how it pertains to communication and manufacturing technology. Areas of single, multi color offset printing, safety, bindery, printing math, and computer applications will be explored. Emphasis will be placed on the integration of offset printing with manufacturing. A section on layout and design will be covered with emphasis on desktop publication.
TE2603 Advanced Graphic Arts Technology
2 CR.
Grades 10, 11, 12
Prerequisites: 85% or better in Screen Printing I and Offset Printing
This course is intended for those students who have an above average interest in the printing trade. The class meets two periods per day for a full year. This course will offer the student an advanced degree of experience in those processes which have been covered in the prerequisite courses along with some individual experimentation There will be a volume of school-related printing projects required. This course maybe repeated if grade point average of 80 or better is obtained from the previous year.
TE1000 Manufacturing: Wood Fabrication
1/2 CR.
Grades 9, 10, 11, 12
The focus of this course is learning the techniques and concepts of production in the context of a wood fabrication shop. Students will learn proper tool and machine use as well as basic techniques through the fabrication of a custom project. Students will then be assigned specific duties in crews or cells within the context of custom batch or mass production projects. Possible production projects include Adirondack chairs, custom cabinetry, kitchen miscellany, and jewelry boxes. It is a semester course.
TE1500/TE1550 Engineering Design: Drafting & Technological Systems
1/2 or 1 CR.
Grades 9, 10, 11, 12
In this full year course students will learn the principles of technical drawing and engineering design. Mediums include paper and pencil, AutoCAD, and product modeling software. They will then apply the process to a series of design, draw, and build projects. One project from each of the following technological areas will be completed: Construction, Manufacturing, Power & Energy-Thermal, Power & energy-Fluid, Power & energy-Electrical, and communication. The class is open to all students. It directly addresses the Massachusetts State Frameworks in Technology/Engineering. This class is a prerequisite for TE2000.
Note: Students may take the first semester of this course for ½ credit. This course number is TE 1500. They cannot take the second semester.
TE2000 Architectural and Construction: Drawing, Design and Modeling
1 CR.
Grades 11, 12
Prerequisite: TE1500 or TE1550
This full year class addresses the principles of residential design and construction. Students will develop the skills and knowledge to develop a complete set of residential architectural plans. Basic construction techniques, local architectural styles, the design process, the building code and zoning regulations will be covered. Materials testing and scale projects are also introduced.
TE3003 Senior Architectural Portfolio
1 CR.
Grades 12
Prerequisite: Architectural Drawing & Design I
This class is intended to provide the student with additional architectural background as well as create a portfolio for college applications. The student has a choice of focus - commercial plans or conceptual sketches and drawings. It is structured as an independent study. The student meets regularly with the instructor for guidance but complete the required research and plans on his/her own initiative.
