MUSIC AT SOUTHAMPTON ROAD

With Miss DuBois

Welcome to our music site!

This coming year is going to be just wonderful!  I have lots of exciting ideas planned and look forward to seeing familiar faces and meeting any new students that are joining us.

Here is an idea of what to expect:

Kindergarten:  Welcome to elementary school!  We will be doing a lot of songs in class as well as playing with instruments!  There will be lots of games and lots of fun to be had.  We will also be singing in the Holiday concert so we will need to prepare for what will, for most of you, be your first time performing on stage!

First Grade: Most of you already know me, so you know my expectations.  First grade is a big step up from Kindergarten! I will expect you to act like the first graders you've become.  We will still play lots of games; do lots of singing, dancing and playing instruments. I hope you remember your notes!!

Second Grade: This will be a year of exploring more music! We will be singing, dancing, playing instruments, making instruments, and having lots of fun.  I still expect the same behavior as your classroom teacher.  Respect is our main rule!

Third Grade: This year is kind of a transition year between being one of the youngest groups at the school to one of the oldest.  We will be doing more reading and writing of music.  We will be playing games that deal more with music theory.  I will expect more out of you both with your behavior and with your work.  We will still do plenty of singing and playing instruments as well!

Fourth Grade: This year we will be doing a lot of reading and writing music.  We will try some sight-singing and we will learn to play recorders!!

Fifth Grade: You've made it! You are officially the oldest students in the building.  In music, I will expect more out of you than ever before.  We will be holding chorus once a week in addition to regular music class.  Every fifth grader is in the chorus.  We will be learning songs for our Holiday concert and then our Memorial Day concert with a few other surprises in between.

I only ask one thing of you, that you try.  You don't need to like to sing, you don't need to be a good singer.  You just need to give me the effort.  We will have a lot of fun and I am really looking forward to it!!

BEHAVIOR EXPECTATIONS FOR MUSIC CLASS

I like to reward good behavior so I am going to be implementing something called the GOOD BEHAVIOR BASKET.  If there is a student that is standing out for their good behavior, helpfulness, etc., I will have them pick a card from the good behavior basket. These cards will have all sorts of rewards, ex.  You will be the teacher's helper next class, etc.

MUSIC CLASS WISH LIST

- Tissues

-Anti bacterial wipes/hand gel

-Blank cassette tapes (not VHS)

-Anything else you think might benefit the classroom

Thank you and I look forward to meeting many of you throughout the year!
