GRADING SYSTEM The school year is divided into four marking terms. Students receive grades in each term for each course taken. Grades are scaled as follows:

GRADING PERIODS 2009- 2010 1st Quarter - August 31st - November 4th 2nd Quarter - November 5th - January 22nd 3rd Quarter - January 25th - April 5th 4th Quarter - April 6th - June 22nd The above dates are tentative. The first three marking periods will be 45 school days in length. Progress Reports are sent home at approximately mid-term of each Semester. Report cards marking student progress and achievement are issued mid-November, early February, late April and the end of the school year. |

HONOR ROLL At the end of each quarter, the middle school recognizes students who have attained South Middle School's Honor Roll status. South Middle School's Honor Roll is divided into two levels: Maximum Honors and Honor Roll. Requirements for achieving either honor roll standing are listed below. |

MAXIMUM HONORS 1. Language Arts, Math, Social Studies, Science and Reading: at least all 90's; 83-100 average in Foreign Language & Algebra. 2. Other subjects 80's or better. 3. All conduct comments on report cards should reflect positive behavior and conduct. "Unsatisfactory Conduct", "Unsatisfactory Work" and "Poor Attitude" comments will make students ineligible for Maximum Honors. |

HONORABLE MENTION At the end of each quarter, the middle school recognizes students who have not attained Honor Roll status, but who have achieved academic growth and success. Requirements for achieving Honorable Mention are listed below: 1. Language Arts, Math, Social Studies, Science and Reading: no grade less than an 80; no grade less than a 73 in Foreign Language & Algebra. 2. Other subjects: 80 or better with one 73-79 allowed. 3. All conduct comments on report cards should reflect positive behavior and conduct, "Unsatisfactory Conduct", "Unsatisfactory Work" and "Poor Attitude" comments will make students ineligible for Honorable Mention. |
