To
Parents,
"Summer goes, summer goes,
Like the sand between my toes
When the waves go out.
That's how summer pulls away,
Leaves me standing here today,
Waiting for the school bus."
Welcome to a new school year! Many a student can identify with the
above
stanza from Russell Hoban's poem "Summer Goes". Indeed, the
time of
frogging at the pond, picking flowers, collecting shells and rocks,
and
writing postcards from places far away has past and scholarly attainment
has begun.
To ensure your child starts the year with the right tools, a list of
supplies will be provided.
Homework will generally be assigned on a daily basis Monday through
Thursday, although long-range projects may require some work on the
weekend. Your child will record all assignments and projects in the
Student Homework Planner. Please check the planner regularly to see
that
your child has completed his/her assignments. There may be times when
your child will have no homework, in which case encourage him/her to
read
30 minutes or longer.
Every two or three weeks I will be sending home a folder with classroom
papers and tests to keep you informed of your child's progress. A letter
for you to sign and return will accompany the folder. Also a progress
report will be sent home at midterm of each marking period.
I am looking forward to working with your child and am sure we will
learn
much from each other.
