Mrs. Parrow

Welcome!

September 2008
Dear Families,

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome both you and your child to
third grade. This will be a very exciting year for all of us. I am both pleased and honored to be teaching your child. I look forward to meeting you at Open House.
More information will follow as to the dates of Open House.
Our classroom is Room 112, located in the primary wing.

In providing for your child’s supplies for the school year, I ask that you send in the following supplies at your convenience. Please do not feel that you need to run out right away to purchase these supplies. Any time within the next week or so will be fine.

• 5 pocket folders (one of each: blue, purple, red, yellow and green) I
think that they are available at Staples for ten cents a piece.
• one or two erasable red pens
• one glue stick
• one small pencil box
• one pair of small scissors
We will use the pocket folders for organizing by subject matter and will label
them together in school. A box of tissues for the cold season and a box of
crackers for snacks would also be greatly appreciated. We also use dixie cups and
wipes to clean our desks very often. Thank you to those of you that have already
sent these in.

The days of our specials are as follows:

Monday Music
Tuesday Technology and Gym
Wednesday Health
Thursday Art
Friday Library

We will take a mid-afternoon break each day for a snack. Your child may bring
in a snack and drink if desired.

I will assign homework Monday through Thursday each week. The assignments
should take 15-20 minutes to complete and are expected in the next morning. I also ask that a parent sign the homework assignment sheet on a weekly basis. I will collect the signed homework assignment sheets each Friday. Reading alone or reading aloud to someone for a minimum of 20 minutes each
night will also be part of the daily homework. I will send home a calendar each
month so that you and your child can monitor this very important activity. Please
sign it at the end of each month so that your child will get credit for their time
spent reading.
If your child will be traveling home via a different route, a note is required. A
note is also required for any absence.

Please complete and return the following forms as soon as possible:
• Emergency cards (2)
• Receipt of Handbook
• Release of Student Images
Please feel free to contact me at any time during the school year if you have
any concerns or questions about your child. You may write a note or leave a
message in the office. I will get in touch with you as soon as possible. I am very excited to have the opportunity to share in your child’s learning experience this year.

Sincerely,

Marybeth Parrow
