Anne-Marie Nicolai gave a school fund-raiser update. She stated that 43 students participated in the limo lunch that they earned through their fund-raiser sales and 59 students and 3 teachers has a turn in the money machine. 44 8th graders that are going to Washington D.C. participated in the fund-raiser and netted $1,600.00 for their trip. Notices will be going home with students to inform them of their earnings. 153 students are currently signed up to go on the trip (about 1/2 the class). If any parents are willing to spearhead any further fund-raising for the trip, please contact Mrs. Jachym.
Mrs. Jachym asked the PTAC to fund a school wide multi-media presentation. The group has presented at the school in the past. South Middle School will also be having their own presentation and the schools can split the cost if they have it on the same day. The PTAC approved the funds for the assembly.
The South Middle School enrichment committee has contacted North Middle School to discuss possibly holding a "Scholastic Idol" competition between the two schools. The event would be held weekly culminating in a final match on Channel 15. The format would be similar to "As Schools Match Wits": Those in attendance thought that this would be a great idea and a great alternative to the athletic events that are usually held. Parent volunteers would be needed to coordinate the event with the two schools. A note will be sent home to try to find some volunteers for this project.
The Spirit Night Basketball Game is still in the works for the beginning of March. Westfield High School has been contacted about possibly using their gym and the Westfield State College Gym is also being considered.
Mrs. Jachym state that the Wright Flight Program would not be offered at NMS this year. Due to the small amount of available spots for students, the program will only be offered to South Middle School students this year.
Upcoming events include the school musical on Friday, February 5th and Saturday, march 6th and the Science Overnight on Friday, March 19th. This month's aspirations theme is Fun and Excitement. Teams are participating in vario9us events including a penny contest, guitar hero, Bingo and board games. Student Senate representatives from each team presented suggestions and proposals to teachers and administrators. Mrs. Jachym said it went very well and would possibly like them to present at future school committee meetings.
Carol Cousins spoke about a possible future fund-raisers. It is gift card sales and funds raised could possibly be used in the upcoming 2010-2011 school year for the 8th grade Washington D.C. trip. The plans would need to start underway now in order to have the fund-raiser be place for next fall. More information will be forthcoming.
Meeting was adjourned at 7:45.
Next meeting will be Tuesday, March 16th at 7:00 pm in the North Middle School Library.
