The speech and language department at Fort Meadow services children with speech, language and communication difficulties. Emphasis is placed on helping the child communicate with adults and peers in the classroom, in order to convey basic wants and needs as well as for social interaction and play. In the classroom, language skills are emphasized through a variety of media and activities such a s books/stories, circle time routines, fine motor center, puzzles, dramatic play, music and large motor play. Speech staff present activities within the classroom and consult with classroom staff on an ongoing basis to meet individual needs of the children. Pullout services are also provided, as needed, to emphasize skills that need to be first addressed within a quiet or separate setting.
